PETITION & NEWS

FIRST PETITION DRIVE - Successfully completed in March 2021.

Thanks to your support (at that time) we not only met the required threshold of 25% (petitions from 77 property owners in Bellehurst) we surpassed that number by submitting 91 valid petitions!

GOING FORWARD:

We then continued to progress with the next steps in the process of creating a new Historic District, set forth and established by Glendale’s ordinance for historic districting.

April 15, 2021: The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) met to review the 91 petitions submitted by Bellehurst property owners and voted to approve a "request for proposal" ("RFP") for the retention of a consultant to conduct a Historic Resources Survey of 306 Bellehurst properties within the proposed district.  COMPLETED

May 17, 2022: The Historic Resources Survey for Bellehurst was launched, and completed approx. one year later in July 2023. COMPLETED

GOING FORWARD IN 2024 - NEXT STEP(s)

No Proposed Date in 2024 Offered by the City: After the Historic Resources Survey has been completed by the consultants (hired by the City); The City will notify and invite all Bellehurst property owners to a community meeting, property owners will also be invited to call in. TBD.

No Proposed Date in 2024 Offered by the City: The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will then meet to review the Historic Resources Survey and (hopefully) vote to approve the circulation of a final petition to Bellehurst property owners (during a six month period) by the applicants/proponents acquiring signatures of 50% (+1) of property owners requesting that the district be designated. Bellehurst property owners will be invited to this meeting and will also be invited to call in.

TBD: The final petition will then be circulated to all property owners (during a six month period) by the applicants/proponents acquiring signatures of 50% (+1) of property owners requesting that the district be designated. This petition must then be submitted to the City and Historic Preservation Commission.

The automatic online DocuSign petition system for this page will resume when we circulate the final petition in 2025.

Ultimately, the City Council must vote in favor of the historic designation for the zone change to be made.
